Without the help of allied health professionals, Rosa Lachlan wouldn’t be able to live at home independently and be an active member of her community. A healthy and active woman, Rosa’s life dramatically changed in 2017 when she suffered a stroke which significantly impacted her physical state.
She credits allied health professionals in giving her hope and the tools to get back to normal and doing the things that she loves. This is one of countless stories across Queensland of how allied health is improving the lives of our communities.
Today we’re proud to join and celebrate International Allied Health Professionals Day (AHP Day), giving us a chance to recognise the contribution of our allied health staff.
Queensland’s Chief Allied Health Officer Liza-Jane McBride said that awareness days like AHP Day are crucial to celebrating the workforce and gives us a chance to reflect on their achievements.
"Allied health professionals play a crucial role in the delivery to health services to Queenslanders including care in the community, in the hospital emergency department and specialist outpatient clinics.
"I’d like to thank all of our Queensland allied health professionals for their service, and hope that you are all able to take time to celebrate your accomplishments on this internationally recognised day."
The importance of allied health on the client journey
Rosa was one of four consumers who shared their stories at the recent National Allied Health Conference to remind delegates of their importance in the patient journey. The video series brought home the message that access to allied health professionals has a profound impact on the overall patient journey and gave the consumers a chance to thank the allied health professionals that supported them.
No matter how you choose to mark AHP Day, remember to share your celebration on social media using #AHPsDay, #AHPsDayAUS and #proudtobeAHP
