More than 300 Nurse and Midwifery Unit Managers from across Queensland came together in October for the 2017 NUM/MUM Summit.
Summits were held in both Brisbane and Townsville and attracted nurses and midwives from all Hospital and Health Services at both events.
The two-day summits were delivered by the Office of the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer (OCNMO), Clinical Excellence Division, Human Resources Branch, and the Queensland Nurses and Midwives' Union (QNMU). The aim was to provide an update on some of the enterprise bargaining (EB9) projects and initiatives. Attendees also heard from keynote speakers Robbi Mack and Sharon Bown on the topics of resilience and adversity.
Jenny Goodwin, Nursing Director and summit organiser said the events also provided a valuable opportunity to engage with Queensland Health nurses and midwives and the QNMU for the NUM MUM framework, which is still in development. "The framework is designed to articulate the requisite skills, knowledge and attributes NUM/MUMs require in undertaking core functions of their role," she said. "The information we collated at both summits will be used to inform the framework which we are aiming to have finalised by the end of March."
Ms Goodwin said attendees had provided overwhelmingly positive feedback on both summits, with particular emphasis on the value of sharing and working through issues being experienced across the state.
A Pink Ribbon fundraiser held at the end of the first day raised a total of $1,543 for the Cancer Council.
OCNMO would like to thank event partner, the QNMU, for helping to deliver the summits.
