Several Queensland health services have won awards at the 2018 International Hospital Federation (IHF) Awards, announced by IHF President Dr Francisco Balestrin (Brazil) in Brisbane yesterday.
The awards form part of the 42nd World Hospital Congress event and honour innovations and outstanding achievements in the healthcare industry around the world.
Among the recipients was Metro South Hospital and Health Service, winning Gold in the IHF/Austco Excellence Award for Quality and Safety in Patient-Centred Care for their Gestational Diabetes Mellitus App and Interactive Clinician Portal (Internet Based).In the same category merit awards were also received by:
- Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service for the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital Gender Clinic and Statewide Service.
- Redcliffe Hospital for A Pharmacist-led Hospital-based Opioid Stewardship Service.
- The Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service, in partnership with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service and Canberra Hospital and Health Service, for IRONing out Maternity Blood Management: Improving identification and management of iron deficiency and anaemia.
Metro South also took out silver in the IHF/Dr Kwang Tae Kim Grand Award for Our Transformation to Australia's First Digital Health Service. In the same category, Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service took out Bronze for Wide Bay Amazing Sustainable Turnaround.
In the IHF/Bionexo Award for Corporate Social Responsibility, Metro South was again named amongst the winners. Receiving a merit award, Metro South was recognised for Improving access to oral health with a patient-centred focus to a vulnerable community.
A total of 160 entries were received for the awards from 118 organisations in 33 countries.
The 42nd World Hospital Congress continues today and into Friday, with more than 1,000 delegates coming together to learn from 150 speakers from 30 different countries on how to improve patient care and tackle current and future challenges. The event is supported by the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association, the International Hospital Federation, and the Clinical Excellence Division.
