Members of our Statewide Anaesthesia and Perioperative Care Clinical Network, known as SWAPNet, today attended the NPS MedicineWise Choosing Wisely National Conference in Canberra.
Choosing Wisely Australia aims to assist healthcare providers and consumers to start important conversations about improving the quality of healthcare by eliminating unnecessary and sometimes harmful tests, treatments, and procedures.
Karen Hamilton, SWAPNet Coordinator, and Corrina Green, Quality Improvement Facilitator from the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and former SWAPNet Project Officer (pictured), attended the event to present their poster on the new Pre-anaesthetic Evaluation Framework. The framework sponsored by the Clinical Excellence Division is a suite of resources developed to support the effective triage and assessment of patients undergoing a procedure requiring anaesthetic. It aligns with the Choosing Wisely philosophy because it is designed to minimise hospital attendance and optimise patient outcomes by streamlining processes and reducing duplication, investigation, assessment, unplanned cancellations and unexpected post-operative complications.
Further information about the Pre-anaesthetic Evaluation Framework is available on the CED website.
