The Statewide Anaesthesia and Perioperative Care Clinical Network (SWAPNet) commenced the rollout of their Rural Perioperative Team Training Program (RPTTP) with a Train the Trainer session in Brisbane today.
The RPTTP is a multifaceted, multidisciplinary team training program that supports clinicians to deliver and maintain safe, sustainable service delivery in rural and remote Queensland. The Train the Trainer session allowed faculty members to refine the training scenarios before the inaugural session at Proserpine Hospital later this week.
“Today’s training and the faculty debriefing training held in December last year are the first steps in delivering this unique training opportunity to clinicians working in perioperative environments in rural sites across Queensland. They have been waiting for localised training of this kind for many years,” SWAPNet Co-chair Dr Ivan Rapchuk said.
“We originally proposed delivering the training at a handful of sites however due to the demand from rural and remote communities, we are now delivering the training at 17 sites involving 22 facilities over the next 10 months.”
The Rural Perioperative Team Training Faculty comprises anaesthetists, GP Rural Generalists, medical officers, surgeons, perioperative nurses, perioperative nurse educators, midwifery educators and technical support officers who are volunteering their time to deliver the training.
RPTTTP is the latest body of work delivered by SWAPNet, which won the Enabling safe, quality services and high performance category at last year’s Queensland Health awards with its Australian first Difficult Airway Alert
