The second—and last—day of Clinical Excellence Showcase 2019 kicked off with a breakfast where the Healthcare Improvement Community of Practice (HICOP) was launched. HICOP was created to support and inspire our improvement practitioners.
This was followed by what looked to be this year's most popular session. A live demonstration of the Australian first wireless vital sign monitoring pilot at Kilcoy Hospital. Adjunct Professor Adam Scott said while it's still in its infancy, they're appreciative of users identifying gaps—like continuous blood glucose monitoring—to drive improvement. All patient data sits behind the hospital's secure firewall and can be integrated with ieMR.
Past presenters Sally McCray and Janet Brack told us Showcase 2018 played a pivotal role helping them grow their projects. Ms McCray's room service foodservice model has been adopted by all Mater facilities in South Brisbane and The Prince Charles Hospital while Ms Brack's co-responder program is available through Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service.
The Great Debate closed out what has been a great two days at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. Professor Keith McNeil, Clair Sullivan and Lynne McKinlay took on clinicians Dr Carl de Wet, Dr Rob Franz and Dr Michael Tresillian arguing who exactly runs the health system. This light-hearted debate had most people in stitches before it was decided both teams were worthy winners.
A big thank you to everyone who came along to Showcase 2019. See you on 5 and 6 March 2020 for Showcase 2020.
