Trauma

The Queensland Trauma Clinical Network was originally established in 2007 as a key action item of the Trauma Plan for Queensland 2006 (The Plan). The Queensland Trauma Clinical Network has provided oversight and support for the strategies contained in The Plan which has included the establishment of major trauma centres in Queensland, verification of trauma centres, expansion of quality focused data collection, and numerous research and education initiatives. The Queensland Trauma Clinical Network was aligned to the Healthcare Improvement Unit (HIU) in 2015, under the sponsorship from the Executive Director of the HIU.

The role of the network

The Queensland Trauma Clinical Network is a multidisciplinary collaboration of clinicians that provides expert direction and advice on all strategic matters relating to the delivery and advancement of trauma services in Queensland. The Committee meets quarterly and provides leadership to the broader advisory groups and trauma services across Queensland to achieve improvements in clinical practice, service efficiency/access, and the patient journey in trauma

Key focus areas

The Queensland Trauma Clinical Network has several key focus areas in 2021, including the development of:

  • a new Queensland Health trauma plan
  • trauma services Clinical Skills Capability Framework (CSCF)
  • statewide clinical practice guidelines
  • statewide trauma education packages
  • statewide trauma data collection and reporting
  • research and quality improvement initiatives
