Showcase 2018

Connect. Care. Create.

images description

We brought clinicians, consumers and health service managers from across Queensland Health to hear the latest projects and programs that are creating change and delivering real benefits to Queenslanders within the theme: Connect. Care. Create. and sub-themes in Indigenous health, technology, integrating care, children’s health and consumer engagement.

The 2018 Clinical Excellence Showcase featured a programme jam-packed with home-grown initiatives and inspirational speakers, including Dr Jessica Gallagher. Recently profiled as one of 200 Women Who Will Change The Way You See The World, Jessica’s sporting credentials as the only female Australian to have medalled at a summer and winter Paralympics or Olympics speaks for itself, but it was her ability to bring the authenticity of her unique life experiences on and off the sporting field and create synergy with the audience that left many inspired and motivated.

With Jessica kick-starting our event, guests could then chose an agenda that suited them, with 48 presentations from Queensland Health staff on offer across the two days.

Other keynote speakers included Associate Professor Stephen Stathis who presented on how the Queensland Children’s Hospital’s Gender Clinic is improving mental and physical health outcomes for this small but highly vulnerable population. And drawing on his experience here and abroad, our newly appointed Chief Clinical Information Officer Professor Keith McNeil discussed the power of data and what our digital future will look like.

On day two the 'Great Debate' left many in stitches. Director-General Michael Walsh led the affirmative team's arguments for "The Robots are coming" - Will technology reduce the need for clinicians at the bedside? The negative team was led by Prof Keith McNeil, with the debate proving a popular and amusing way to close out the 2018 event.
